Q: How long does the foam roof installation process take?

A: Residential and small commercial projects are usually completed in 1 to 3 days depending on size and complexity. Larger commercial projects smaller than 100,000 square feet are usually completed in 3 to 6 days. The bulk of the roof work takes place in one or two days on most small and medium size projects. Two additional days are allowed so that the roof surface can be prepared and then inspected by a city official before roof installation.

Q: Can I install additions, skylights, vents, or conduits on an existing Dura-Foam roof?

A: Yes, details for how these installations should be performed are available on our website. Dura-Foam roofs are versatile because when these types of installations take place, the seal is waterproof and permanent. Also, many of these installations can be sealed affordably without the need of a foam truck.

Q: Will my air conditioning equipment and ductwork need to be dismantled or turned off during the roofing process?

A: Often, we can work around roof-top equipment and duct work without having to remove it. The amount of clearance between the ducts / equipment and roof surface is often a determining factor. When air conditioning equipment does not need to be moved or modified, it can operate during the roof installation process if it isn’t leaking condensate onto the roof surface.

Q: Can Dura-Foam apply foam over ductwork during the roof installation process?

A: Occasionally, customers request that we apply our Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) to their ductwork during the roof installation process. Unico Systems and other low profile duct networks that do not hinder roof drainage are well suited for being covered with the Dura-Foam System.

In other cases, SPF can be applied to the top and sides of exposed ducts which are elevated above the roof surface when they do not need to be removed temporarily during roof installation. We do not recommend applying SPF to exposed ductwork as a method of waterproofing those ducts. We need to inspect to determine whether we will advise applying SPF to exposed ductwork during the roof installation.

Q: My property has some dry-rot in its fascia boards and deck boards, can Dura-Foam repair this during the roofing process.

A: Yes, we often handle wood replacement and dry-rot repair.

Q: Can Dura-Foam replace damaged skylights and perform new skylight installations on my roof?

A: Yes, we often replace damaged skylights. We also installs skylights on selected roof structures.

Q: I want to install a Unico System to provide heat and air conditioning. Does Dura-Foam have experience with Unico Systems?

A: Yes, Dura-Foam has integrated Unico and other Small Duct High Velocity systems on various projects. Also, we offer general contracting services for customers who want to install Unico, photovoltaic, and other types of systems in conjunction with a new roof system. Lately, low-profile HVAC systems utilizing traditional HVAC equipment have gained the most traction. Refer to our HVAC gallery for examples.

Q: I am interested in having photovoltaic cells installed. How compatible is Dura-Foam with photovoltaic systems?

A: We have coordinated with various solar electric companies to ensure optimum performance of both the roof and the photovoltaic systems. We also offer general contracting services on projects where photovoltaic, hvac, low voltage, and other systems are to be installed in conjunction with a new roof installation. Often, Dura-Foam customers decide to have photovoltaic cells installed many years after the initial roof installation. In these situations, the existing roof remains intact and we simply seal around the newly installed vertical supports for the new photovoltaic support structure. We form a permanent seal between the support and the existing roof; we don’t patch, we seal.
